Chef Marie Mitchell on her East End area with a fantastic foodie scene and old school values

I grew up south of the river, but at 26 I moved to the north. We lived in Hackney and Walthamstow, and when we decided to buy, we began looking at the available properties. I was introduced to Leyton by a friend. I didn’t know much about it but I loved it. We moved here five years ago. It has the best community feel in London. I moved here five years ago.

We have a car, but we prefer to use the bus or train to get around. We are on the Gospel Oak-Barking Overground line and it’s only two stops to Blackhorse Road. You can also take a bus to Stratford and Walthamstow. I will walk to Clapton or Hackney, and if I feel like it, I will walk to Stratford. It is a lovely park with the same faces as before.
